Egyptian Mystery

Thursday, September 17 at 5:45 pm ET (New York)

Appropriate for ages 11 and up

The ancient Egyptians had a somewhat unusual way of handling fractions, and created tables of numbers to help them with their calculations.  Join Joshua Zucker to decipher an ancient tablet and understand what the Egyptians built, then explore some of the mysteries — unsolved to this day! — of whether the patterns there can be continued forever.

Prerequisites: Comfort with making common denominators and adding fractions.  Some amount of familiarity with algebra is useful, but not required.

This is a live-streamed event.  Occasional video recordings are made available for a fee at videos.momath.org.
